Thomas Müller has given the club's fans an update on how he is doing as he enters his 16th season as a Bayern Munich player.
"The new coaching staff is bringing a breath of fresh air," Müller said. ?There's also exciting competition within the squad. So, for me, after our trophyless season, I'm itching to get going "
"I'm curious and excited about the new coaching staff. This year it's going to be a bit like speed dating. The trial period is particularly short. In about two weeks there's the first round of the DFB Pokal."
"Fun fact: My first Bundesliga game for FC Bayern was Vincent Kompany's last game for HSV in the Bundesliga before he moved to England. We played against each other several times during his time at Manchester City and the Belgian national team."
"For me training started at the beginning of the week with the annual performance tests. I feel good and am happy with the results."
Müller, and the rest of the Bayern players who represented Germany at this year's European Championships, reported back to training this week before the side flew out to South Korea.
The Bayern icon signed a new one-year contract last year, and many fans believe this will be his last season with the club. The Bayern number 25 could retire in 2025. His potential last ever game for the club of his childhood could be the Champions League final, in Munich.
If he was to leave next summer, there could not be a more fairytale way of ending his long, prestigious Bayern Munich career than winning the Champions League at the Allianz Arena.
It is a testament to Müller‘s longevity that he played against his current head coach in a league that Kompany left a whole 16 years ago.
Whilst he almost certainly will not be a starter this season, it would be foolish to think that Müller will not have an important part to play, at some point, in any potential Bayern success this season.
