Takeaways for Bayern Munich from thrilling 5-0 win against Werder Bremen
Alphonso Davies needs to kick-on after good display against Werder Bremen
Alphonso Davies was handed a second consecutive start this week. The Canadian full-back played well against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday, which allowed Kompany to stick with him against Werder Bremen. Davies repaid the faith shown by the Belgian coach.
The Canadian left-back did well at both ends of the pitch. He was tidy on the ball and created two chances on Saturday. Defensively, Davies was solid and helped in keeping Werder Bremen quiet on their right flank.
Davies has endured a mixed start to the season. Kompany considers him an important player in the squad, but he delivered average performances before the first international break. Raphael Guerreiro started against Freiburg on matchday two in the left-back position before the break. Davies has responded well to the demotion and should look to build on performances against Dinamo Zagreb and Werder Bremen.
With Guerreiro expected to play on the right side of the back four in the coming weeks, Davies has the chance to cement his place in the XI. There is a lot of speculation around his future in Munich, but Davies needs a strong season after a difficult 2023/24 campaign. The bigger test awaits him next weekend, but this week has shown that Davies is slowly and steadily getting back to his best. (Stats courtesy: Fotmob)
