Good signs in final third ahead of the game against Real Madrid

The scoreline may suggest Bayern clinched a narrow victory, but that was far from the case. Bayern lacked the finishing touch to put Frankfurt to the sword. They accumulated an xG of 3.36 and conceded only 0.49 of xG against Frankfurt. With 20 shots and five big chances, Bayern were the superior side by a good margin in this game.

It was an impressive display in the final third since Thomas Tuchel had to rely on squad players behind Harry Kane. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting played the number ten role, while Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller played on either flank. All four forwards looked dangerous in the final third with their passes and crosses. With better finishing and rub of the green, Die Roten would have won the game by a bigger margin.

The fluent patterns of play in the final third for Bayern are encouraging signs ahead of the game against Real Madrid. The Spanish club defends resolutely, as they showed in the away at Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Bayern will have to come out on top at Allianz Arena to get a healthy lead before the second leg in Madrid. Tuchel will want his forward players to keep up this level of fluidity in the final third on Tuesday.
