Mathys Tel looked good early on

Since Harry Kane was injured, Mathys Tel started the game for Bayern on Saturday. The French forward grabbed this opportunity with both hands and looked bright in the final third from the word go. Tel scored Bayern’s first goal and assisted Alphonso Davies for the second.

Die Roten’s performance went on the decline after Hoffenheim’s opening goal resulting in a corresponding decline in Tel’s impact the longer the game went on. Tel’s main assets are pace and dribbling ability along with improved finishing this season. However, owing in part to his build, he does not possess the ability to hold up play like Harry Kane. With the opposition gaining confidence as the game wore on, Kane’s hold-up play and distribution would have come in handy later on. It was no surprise to see Tel being replaced for the last ten odd minutes.
