Bayern Munich brought down the curtain on the 2023/24 Bundesliga season with a poor performance at the Rhein-Neckar Arena against Hoffenheim. Courtesy of this defeat, Bayern ended up finishing third in the Bundesliga.

After going up 2-0 inside the opening six minutes Bayern failed to do much right thereafter. A mistake from Manuel Neuer allowed Hoffenheim to halve the deficit inside of ten minutes. There was a shift in momentum once Hoffenheim scored their first goal. Andrej Kramaric scored a second half hattrick to seal 4-2 win for Hoffenheim. Let us look at takeaways from Bayern's disappointing final day performance in the Bundesliga.

Three at the back once again didn’t work for Bayern

Earlier in the season, Thomas Tuchel deployed a 3-4-2-1 formation against Leverkusen and Bayern lost 3-0 at BayArena. In the season’s finale against Hoffenheim, with numerous players on the mend ahead of Euro 2024, Tuchel once again decided to match the opposition’s 3-4-2-1 formation. The final result was only marginally better than the epic failure against Leverkusen. Only time will tell what formation will be deployed by the new coach. The outgoing coach was limited with options off the bench but he should have made some tactical changes to stem the tide.
