Thomas Tuchel comes up with another tactical masterclass

At half-time, Thomas Tuchel swapped out Leon Goretzka for Raphael Guerreiro whilst Noussair Mazraoui, in the left-back position, was on a yellow card. Guerreiro didn’t disappoint and Mazraoui completed the entire match. For the second half, the German coach instructed Musiala and Sane to switch flanks. Those changes were spot on as Sane scored the equalizer and Musiala won the penalty which Kane converted to put Bayern ahead.

Based on recent performances, it’s clear that Thomas Tuchel has regained the trust of the players. The 2-2 result against Real Madrid marked the fourth consecutive game in the Champions League that the Bavarian side has looked impressive despite not being at full strength. During these games Harry Kane has looked like the best all-round attacking player on the planet; the once-isolated Leon Goretzka more often than not has looked like a midfield general, whilst Konrad Laimer and Aleksandar Pavlovic have fortified the midfield whenever called upon. The German coach can’t be blamed for the individual defensive errors that continue to haunt the team.

Despite this writer being one of Thomas Tuchel’s harshest critics throughout the season, barring further injuries, in this scenario of Champions League or bust, Thomas Tuchel has my backing to pull a rabbit out of his cap next Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
