The Champions League campaign came to a brutal end for Bayern Munich as they were knocked out by Real Madrid with a dramatic 2-1 win at Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday. Bayern looked on course for the final, but a quickfire brace from Joselu after the 85th minute sealed the win for the Spanish giants.

Bayern came up with a game plan to absorb the pressure in Madrid and try to hit the hosts on the counter. They found themselves in good positions during the first half, but poor decision-making in the final third petered out the promising attacking moves. They eventually got the lead through a well-coordinated move after the hour mark. Alphonso Davies curled the ball past the goalkeeper with his weaker foot to score the decisive goal.

Despite Real Madrid creating numerous chances, Bayern defended well in their box. However, an uncharacteristic error from Manuel Neuer brought Real Madrid back into the game. The visitors lost the plot as Joselu scored in added time to seal the victory. It was a bitter defeat since Bayern were a few minutes away from booking a place in the final. Let us look at crucial takeaways from Bayern’s solid performance at Santiago Bernabéu
