Bayern Munich clinched a thumping 14-1 win in their first pre-season game against FC Rottach-Egern on Wednesday. The pre-season friendly was part of Die Roten's training camp in Tegernsee before the squad travels to Asia for the pre-season tour.

The game against FC Rottach-Egern started slowly for Die Roten, as the scoreline was 0-0 after 18 minutes. Bayern eventually stepped up and played good football to score goals consistently during the game. Vincent Kompany will be pleased with how his players performed and crucially got 45 minutes of game time under their belt.

Major conclusions about Kompany’s playing style cannot be made from a game against Rottach-Egern. However, the Belgian coach is eager to implement an expansive style of football that sees Bayern dominate games in and out of possession.

Sven Ulreich started the game against Rottach-Egern. The German goalkeeper has been part of the pre-season training from the start since he had a long summer break. While talking to AZ after the game on Wednesday, Ulreich revealed key change made by Kompany in the team’s style of play over the last ten days.

"Generally, it's in the game off the ball. We're pressing more actively and are more aggressive in our game. Kompany has a clear idea of how we want to play, he's very communicative."

Bayern often failed to recover in games last season when the opposition had the momentum. They often dropped deep instead of pushing upfront to win the ball higher up the pitch. It would be a welcome move from Kompany if he manages to significantly improve Bayern’s game out of possession.

The Belgian coach made Burnley a possession-heavy team in the Championship. The English team also worked tirelessly out of possession. Burnley won the Championship by playing this style of football but couldn’t yield good results in the Premier League. With better quality of players at Bayern, Kompany should be confident about getting good results.

Kompany would have liked to have the entire squad for the pre-season training, allowing the players to get accustomed to the demands of his style of play. However, Euro and Copa America made it difficult for the Belgian coach to have the entire squad for pre-season training. After completing the training camp at Tegernsee, Bayern will face Duren and Tottenham Hotspur in the remaining pre-season games. They will face Spurs twice at different venues.
