Sacha Boey aiming for French call-up after Bayern Munich transfer

After sealing a mid-season move to Bayern Munich, Sacha Boey is hoping to get a call-up for French national team by delivering strong performances in the Bavarian colours.

Sacha Boey started his time at Bayern Munich on a winning note as he came on in the second half against Borussia Monchengladbach. The French defender replaced Noussair Mazraoui in the right-back position at the hour mark.

The 23-year-old defender had a solid outing as Die Roten looked to seal all three points after getting the equaliser late in the first half. Boey helped the team to keep a clean sheet in the second half after goals from Harry Kane and Matthijs de Ligt sealed the victory.

The French defender will compete with Mazraoui for the right-back spot. He became Bayern’s record buy in a winter transfer window. The Bavarian club paid €30 million to Galatasaray in the penultimate week of January. Die Roten initially tried to sign Kieran Trippier and Nordi Mukiele. With negotiations for other right-backs not moving forward, Bayern moved swiftly to sign the 23-year-old French right-back.

Boey quickly agreed personal terms with Die Roten as he believed this was an ideal opportunity for him to take the next step in his career. While talking to Telefoot over the weekend (via iMiaSanMia), Boey admitted that a transfer to Bayern can help him to get the call-up for the French national team.

""When you play for Bayern Munich, everyone watches the games. It's up to me to perform. The French national team is a dream. Representing my country in a tournament would be huge.""

The 23-year-old defender faces stiff competition in the right-back position in the French national team. Benjamin Pavard has consistently played as right-back for Didier Deschamps over the last few years, while Jules Kounde played in this position during the World Cup.

Boey can force his way into Deschamps’ plans for the Euros 2024 by delivering quality performances for Die Roten in the next four months. He can attract the attention of the French coach by playing regularly for the Bavarian club at the top level.

Bayern are currently involved in the Bundesliga title race with Bayer Leverkusen. The two title rivals face off in the Bundesliga on Saturday. They are set to face Lazio in the first knockout round of the Champions League later this month. Boey will hope to get a good amount of game time in the next few games.

The arrival of Boey solves Die Roten’s problem in the right-back position. They have two quality options in Mazraoui and Boey in this role. Healthy competition will help Bayern to get the best out of both players. Both are at a good age, so Rekordmeister don’t have to worry about strengthening this position in the near future.
