The transfer market will go into overdrive as it enters the final two weeks of the window. Several clubs will look to complete deals ahead of the start of the new season. Real Madrid is one high-profile club that will have a quiet end to the window, which spells good news for Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti told the media on Wednesday that the transfer market is closed for the club. The Spanish giant is not looking for further reinforcements after lifting the UEFA Supercup against Atalanta on Wednesday. Real Madrid have been previously linked with a late move for Bayern full-back Alphonso Davies.
Davies will begin the season with Bayern Munich. The Canadian full-back has less than 12 months left on his contract. Real Madrid had reportedly agreed personal terms with Davies. However, Los Blancos never negotiated with Bayern regarding a transfer.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany rates Davies highly. The Belgian coach is hoping to help Davies rediscover his best form. As things stand, Davies will start the season as first choice left-back of Bayern. After a testing 2023/24 campaign, Davies will look to get back in form and help Die Roten win trophies.
Bayern not ruling out new contract for Davies
Real Madrid will look to sign Davies on a free transfer next season. Bayern were contemplating offering an improved deal to Davies in June despite submitting an offer in March. Max Eberl’s decision to improve the terms was vetoed by the supervisory board at Bayern.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Die Roten can consider offering an improved contract to Davies if he thrives under Vincent Kompany. The next few months are crucial regarding the future of Davies in Munich.
Real Madrid are in pole position to getting Davies next summer, but other clubs will be in the mix if Davies doesn’t extend the contract by January. The 23-year-old can negotiate with interested clubs during the winter transfer window. He can sign a pre-contract agreement in January and put final touches to a free transfer at the end of the season.
Bayern had plans in place this summer to replace Davies if Real Madrid had made an offer. They retain interest in AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez, who was open to a switch to Munich this summer. The Bavarian club may make a move for Hernandez next summer if Davies leaves Munich. Girona’s Miguel Guiterrez is another name on Die Roten’s list to replace Davies. For now, Davies and Bayern will focus on the new season since they have got clarity about their association for the next 12 months.
