Ralf Rangnick coy on his future as Bayern Munich speculation intensifies
Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that he has had contact with Bayern Munich, but has insisted that his main focus at the moment is the European Championship with Austria.
The search for the next Bayern Munich head coach is said to be in its final stage, and Ralf Rangnick has emerged as the club's leading candidate. The 65 year old has now revealed that he has had contact with the Bayern bosses. But he is not thinking about the Bayern job at the moment, with his main focus currently on this summer's European Championship.
"Bayern Munich contacted me and I also informed the ÖFB," Rangnick said in an interview with 90minuten.at. "We have a very trusting relationship. My focus is on the Austrian national team. We are concentrating fully on the Euros. I feel very comfortable here. At the moment, there's no reason for me to focus intensively and specifically on this [Bayern's interest]... If Bayern were to say: We want you. I would have to ask myself: Is that what I want?"
Rangnick, who has held coaching roles with the likes of Schalke 04, RB Leipzig and Manchester United, is currently the head coach of the Austria national team. He has sparked an impressive turnaround with the Austrian national team, and also led them to impressive win over Germany in November.
It will be interesting to see if Bayern Munich decide to offer the coaching job to Ralf Rangnick, who has more than two years left on his current contract with the ÖFB.
After being rebuffed by the likes of Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann, those in charge at Bayern Munich will certainly have a tough decision to make as they look to find a successor to Thomas Tuchel.
