Matthijs de Ligt spoke about his strong relationship with Julian Nagelsmann when asked about the prospect of the head coach returning to Bayern Munich next season.

Following Xabi Alonso's decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Julian Nagelsmann is thought to be one of the top candidates to become the next Bayern Munich head coach. Max Eberl is especially thought to be a big fan of 36 year old, who is currently the head coach of the Germany national team.

Nagelsmann's contract with Germany will expire after the conclusion of this summer's European Championship. And while the DFB would like to extend his contract, the prospect of a return to Bayern may prove to be too good to turn down.

Matthijs de Ligt was asked about the prospect of Nagelsmann returning to Bayern Munich following Saturday's win over FC Köln. And the Dutch centre-back said that he has a good relationship with the former RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim head coach. "I have a good relationship with him, I worked well with him last year. But he is now national team coach. We'll see who will be our coach for the new season," de Ligt told Sky Sport.

Julian Nagelsmann was the Bayern Munich head coach from 2021 to 2023. He led the club to the Bundesliga title during his first season in charge, but was sacked in March last year with Bayern one point behind Borussia Dortmund. He was replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who is set to depart Bayern Munich at the end of the current campaign.
