This week has been a rollercoaster ride regarding the future of Noussair Mazraoui at Bayern Munich. West Ham United were in pole position on Thursday to sign the Moroccan full-back after agreeing a fee with Die Roten. However, there has been a significant development in this deal on Friday.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Mazraoui’s move to West Ham has collapsed. The London-based Premier League club couldn’t reach an agreement with Mazraoui’s agent for the transfer. West Ham have walked away from the deal for the Moroccan defender.

Manchester United are now in advanced talks with Bayern for Mazraoui. As per Footmercato in France, Mazraoui is not convinced by West Ham’s project. The 26-year-old full-back is waiting for Manchester United, while Juventus are also showing interest in him.

The deal for Manchester United will be straightforward. They will match the fee West Ham was going to pay Bayern (€19.5 million, including add-ons). However, the Red Devils need to first sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka before signing another right-back. Wan-Bissaka has reportedly rejected a move to West Ham as he prefers joining Inter Milan.

Mazraoui is surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich

Mazraoui has struggled to make an impact at Bayern since arriving from Ajax on a free transfer in 2022. The Moroccan defender managed to make only 55 appearances across two seasons as he struggled with injuries and illness.

Josip Stanišić and Sacha Boey are Bayern’s first-choice right-back options for next season. Stanišić enjoyed a productive loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen before committing his future to Die Roten in June by signing a new deal until 2029. Boey arrived from Galatasaray in January. The French right-back had injury problems in first six months at the club, but he is expected to play regularly under Vincent Kompany.

Bayern will make a profit on Mazraoui. They need funds to sign the rest of their transfer targets. Die Roten are currently in a tussle with Paris Saint-Germain for Désiré Doué. They are also interested in signing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen to strengthen their defense. The Bavarian club will hope for a quick resolution to Mazraoui’s future, allowing them to reinvest money in other deals.
