Manchester United are set to make a move for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, and the transfer could get over the line before the end of next week.

Matthijs de Ligt is free to leave Bayern Munich this summer, and Manchester United are keen to sign him. The Bavarians want a transfer fee in the region of 50 million euros plus bonuses, and the fee appears to be in line with what Manchester United are willing to pay for the center-back.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United recently held official talks over Matthijs de Ligt

According to BILD, Bayern Munich and Manchester United held official talks recently. And while an official offer has not yet been made by the English Premier League side, there is not a big difference between the two clubs' valuations. The expectation is that the transfer could be finalized in the coming week.

The 24 year old is keen to make the switch to Manchester United, where he would be able to reunite with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag. Bayern Munich signed de Ligt from Juventus two years ago, but his high salary and market value has prompted those in charge to consider his sale this summer despite his strong performances during the second half of last season.

The sale of Matthijs de Ligt would also allow Bayern Munich to continue their squad overhaul and sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen. The Germany international has long been Bayern's top defensive target, and a fee in the region of 25 million euros could be enough to clinch the deal.
