After a dismal last season, Bayern Munich were not expected to have several players in the final 30 list of the Ballon d’Or. Harry Kane was the only Bayern player on this list due to his phenomenal goalscoring campaign. He won the domestic and European golden boot along with reaching the finals of the Euro with England.

Bayern expected Jamal Musiala to be on the list released by France Football this week. Max Eberl publicly expressed bemusement about not seeing Musiala on the list. The young German attacking midfielder was productive for Die Roten and won the Golden Boot at the Euros. He was one of the best attacking players in the European Championship.

Musiala ended last season with 12 goals and eight assists for Bayern. He was particularly in a rich vein of form during the second half of the season. However, the lack of silverware for Die Roten meant it was difficult for the German attacking midfielder to make it to the final 30 list of the Ballon d’Or.

Despite facing disappointment this year, Musiala will have several opportunities in the future to win the prestigious trophy. While talking to Bild, former Ballon d’Or winner and Bayern defender Lothar Matthaus insisted that Musiala has all the qualities to lift the trophy in the future eventually.

"Jamal has what it takes to win the Ballon d'Or - thanks to his understanding of the game, his movements and the way he deals with the ball, he can do things that most people don't even think are possible. In addition, he has recently significantly improved his finishing. That's why it's logical and right that he aims to win the Ballon d'Or. "

Musiala needs strong and successful project at Bayern

Matthaus believes Musiala needs a winning project to get individual accolades. Musiala has lifted domestic titles with Bayern since making his debut in June 2020. However, he is yet to win a Champions League title with the Bavarian club. Die Roten last won the European competition in 2019/20.

Bayern are set to hold contract talks with Musiala in the coming months. His current deal expires in 2026. Several big Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on Musiala’s contract situation. They will be ready to make big offers next season if the German international fails to agree terms with Die Roten.

Bayern consider Musiala to be part of their present and future. They want him to remain the face of the club for the next decade. Die Roten need a successful campaign under Vincent Kompany to show Musiala that Bavaria is the place for him to fulfill personal and collective ambitions.

Die Roten have made a solid start to the season, winning all their three competitive games until now. Kompany and Bayern hope to use the good start to the season as a springboard for a successful season in the Bundesliga and Europe.
