Bayern Munich prepared for their crunch trip to Real Madrid with a dismal 3-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

It was certainly not pretty and by no means good enough as Bayern Munich fell to their seventh defeat of the season in the Bundesliga, losing 3-1 away to third placed VfB Stuttgart. The Swabians were the better team right from the start, and clinched a well-deserved win in the end thanks to goals from Leonidas Stergiou, Jeong Woo-yeong and Silas.

Harry Kane scored what proved to be a mere consolation goal for Bayern Munich from the penalty spot, as Stuttgart closed the gap to second place to just two points.

Perhaps it was the tiredness from their mid-week Champions League excursions, but Bayern Munich looked to be bereft of ideas and were outplayed by Stuttgart right from the get go.

Manuel Neuer had to be alert to deny Chris Führich early on, before Eric Dier cleared Serhou Guirassy's shot off the line. But there was no stopping Leonidas Stergiou in the 29th minute, as he clipped the ball past Neuer to give the home side the lead.

Bayern found themselves with a golden opportunity to equalise not long after, as Serge Gnabry was brought down inside the box. Harry Kane stepped up from the penalty spot for his 36th goal of the season in the Bundesliga, giving Thomas Tuchel's side a route back into the game.
