Joshua Kimmich has hinted that he could find himself back in the Bayern Munich midfield this season, although the final decision rests with Vincent Kompany.

After playing at right-back for Bayern Munich and Germany in recent months, Joshua Kimmich could be about to return to the middle of the park. The versatile midfielder has been used in midfield so far in pre-season, and that is where he could line up under Vincent Kompany this season.

"That's the plan for now" - Joshua Kimmich on his role at Bayern

The future of Kimmich was thrown into doubt during the off-season, but now it looks increasingly likely that he will stay at Bayern Munich and possibly extend his contract with the club. Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool were among the clubs who showed an interest in the 29 year old's signature.

Kimmich was asked about his possible role under Kompany, and this is what he had to say (via Sky Sport). "So far, I've only trained and played in central midfield. That's the plan for now. He [Kompany] knows that I can play in both positions. In the end, it's the coach who decides."

The Bayern Munich star also gave his thoughts on the new head coach, and shed some light on his training methods. "He's very structured. You can tell that it's important to him that he delivers content that resonates with us. He is very, very motivated and puts the team spirit at the forefront."

Joshua Kimmich and Bayern Munich will hope for a much better year this time around, having failed to win the Bundesliga title last season. Bayern will begin their Bundesliga campaign away to VfL Wolfsburg later this month.
