Injury concerns in training for Bayern Munich duo

Lightning struck twice in Wednesday's training session, though not as bad as first feared for one player

Bayern Munich fans have become concerned, after the team was handed a double whammy in terms of injuries during Wednesday’s training session.

First of all, Mathys Tel had to finish training early, limping away from the grass after a challenge by Sacha Boey.

Then, lightning struck twice, as Nestory Irankunda was on the end of a strong challenge. The winger “screamed loudly” and remained lying on the floor in pain, and then had to be carried away on a golf cart.

With Leroy Sane unlikely to be back until after the international break, and Kingsley Coman seemingly on his way out, head coach Vincent Kompany could find himself extremely short for options on the left wing for the game against SC Freiburg this weekend.

Injuries leave Bayern Munich light in wide positions ahead of SC Freiburg clash

Should these said incidents in training rule Tel and Irankunda out for the weekend's game, Serge Gnabry seems the only option Kompany has on the left for the game. The likes of Gabriel Vidovic and/or Arijon Ibrahimovic may be called up to the squad to provide necessary cover in case of another injury.

Luckily, an update has suggested that Tel could return to training on Friday, and subsequently may join the squad for the game on Sunday.

There could also be the option of playing Alphonso Davies on the left wing, and Raphael Guerreiro at left-back. Davies was playing on the left wing when he scored against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semifinals last season, and the Canadian international has stated in the past that he prefers to play further forward.

Furthermore, with Gnabry potentially having to play on the left this weekend, it could leave Bayern with just Michael Olise for the right wing position. The Frenchman is still getting up to speed with the Bundesliga and his new teammates at Bayern.

The international break is certainly coming at a convenient time for Bayern. If they can just get through the game against Freiburg this weekend, then they should have players back for the first game back, away to Kiel on the 14th of September.
