Bayern Munich could consider making a late move for Joe Gomez, with the defender expected to leave Liverpool before the transfer window closes.
Joe Gomez was left out of the Liverpool squad for the English Premier League season opener against Ipswich Town. The center-back is now considering his options and a move away from the club before the transfer window closes appears to be likely. According to the Times in the UK, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Chelsea are among the clubs who have shown interest in signing Gomez.
The report adds that Bayern Munich could also potentially join the race for his signature, following the sale of defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Manchester United for a combined fee of 70 million euros.
Could Joe Gomez emerge as a realistic target for Bayern Munich?
While the Bayern bosses are happy with the current roster and new signings appear to be unlikely at the moment, Gomez could present them with another versatile option for defense. It remains to be seen how what transfer fee would be required to sign the England international, who came close to a €50 million move to Newcastle United in June.
Joe Gomez joined Liverpool in 2015 and has made a total of 224 appearances for them across all competitions. He still has three years left on his current contract. Primarily a center-back, Gomez is also capable of playing at right-back and at left-back.
Jonathan Tah remains Bayern Munich's prefered defensive target, but it remains to be seen if the club will still look to pursue a move for him after a lengthy transfer saga that has lasted the entire summer.
