Christoph Freund has praised Leroy Sané for continuing to play through pain amid Bayern Munich's injury crisis in attack.

Leroy Sané has had to deal with his fair share of struggles in recent weeks, and has not scored a goal for Bayern Munich since October. Much of that has been down to a public bone issue that the winger has been dealing with for some time now.

Sané has missed Bayern Munich's last two matches in the Bundesliga as a result, but did play in both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal against Arsenal and also won his side a crucial penalty in the first leg. And Christoph Freund has now revealed the difficulties the 28 year old has to go through in order to play.

"It's absolutely borderline. He has not been able to train at all. The medical department really did everything they could. Leroy really gritted his teeth and put in a great performance. He hasn't actually been able to train for a few weeks, but then somehow he's back for games like this," the Bayern Munich sporting director told Sky Sport Austria.

Injuries to Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman have left Bayern Munich short of options in attack. So Thomas Tuchel certainly needs Leroy Sané, who still has nine goals and 13 assists to his name this season despite his recent struggles.

The Germany international is likely to be given a breather as Bayern Munich go up against Union Berlin this weekend. But the hope will be that he can be close to full fitness in time for Bayern's tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals.
