The Bundesliga campaign is set to kick off this weekend. Bayer Leverkusen will start their title defense away at Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, while record title winners Bayern Munich travel to Wolfsburg on Sunday for matchday one of the Bundesliga.

Bayern find themselves in unfamiliar territory in a decade as they go into the league campaign as challengers instead of defending Champions. Bayer Leverkusen broke Bayern’s streak of winning 11 titles in a row. Xabi Alonso’s team went entire league campaign unbeaten to clinch the title by a significant margin. Bayern ended the season in third position after losing to Hoffenheim on the final matchday of last season.

After losing the Bundesliga title, Bayern chiefs believed significant changes are needed at the club to bring the trophy back to Allianz Arena in 2024/25. Vincent Kompany has replaced Thomas Tuchel in the dugout. The Belgian coach has been backed by the club in the transfer market with three senior signings, while three senior players (Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Eric Maxim-Choupo Moting) have left the club.

With several changes and renewed energy, Bayern will look to start the season on a strong note against Wolfsburg. Let us preview the league campaign for Bayern ahead of the season opener on Sunday.
