Leon Goretzka

Bayern will have to win the midfield battle on Tuesday to trouble Real Madrid. The Spanish club has some of the best midfielders in the world. Die Roten will have to give Real Madrid’s midfielders less time on the ball and pounce on any mistakes. Leon Goretzka will have to start in a defensive role on Tuesday to give Bayern a solid chance to win the midfield battle.

The German midfielder has been in fine form over the past couple of months. The 28-year-old's physicality and defensive awareness help Die Roten to win possession and outmuscle the opposition in midfield. Besides doing all the dirty work in the midfield, Goretzka is also a threat in the final third. He came close to scoring against Arsenal at Allianz Arena with a perfectly timed run in the box.

Goretzka’s position in the starting XI is undisputed as of now. It remains to be seen who he will partner in the center of the park. Konrad Laimer suffered an ankle injury against Eintracht Frankfurt. Aleksandar Pavlovic may end up starting with Goretzka on Tuesday.

If Goretzka ends up delivering another good performance, Bayern would certainly get an advantage in the tie.
