Manuel Neuer

Manuel Neuer could not have picked a better day to set the record for most clean sheets by any goalkeeper in the history of the Champions League. After keeping a clean sheet on Wednesday, Neuer surpassed the previous record of 57 that was held by Iker Casillas.

Although the victory was of greater importance than the record, Neuer deserves particular praise for his performance on the evening. Not only did he show a safe pair of hands in dealing with shots and crosses, but he was back to his vintage best as sweeper-keeper. Neuer got the better of the Arsenal attackers in every duel. His commanding presence helped the back four to lift their game. As the last line of defence, Neuer was effective in leading his troops by an example. The Bavarian faithful will be pleased to have the sweeper-keeper back to his best.
