At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Leon Goretzka once again stamped his authority in the midfield and made a telling impact at both ends of the pitch. Starting in midfield alongside the talented youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic, Goretzka picked up from where he left off against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Bayern had to wait until the 29th minute for the opening goal, but it was worth the wait as Goretzka made his presence felt in the opposition’s penalty box. Die Roten’s most consistent player of recent weeks strode into the box, took one touch to control the ball on the move, and then just one more to blast the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-0. It was the sort of finish that any number nine would have been proud of.

In the second half, Goretzka secured the man-of-the-match award by dominating the play in the midfield. The 29-year-old box-to-box midfielder alertly robbed the opposition’s midfield of the ball and played it to Harry Kane, who then fed Mathys Tel for Bayern’s fourth goal of the evening. In the 66th minute, five minutes before being replaced by Konrad Laimer, Goretzka also provided an excellent cross for Thomas Muller to head home Bayern’s fifth goal. It was a complete midfield performance from Goretzka.
