Bayern Munich: Three players to thrive under Vincent Kompany
Kim Min-jae
Kim Min-jae enjoyed a brilliant start to debut season at Bayern. The South Korean defender was Bayern’s first-choice center-back during the Hinrunde. He seamlessly adapted to the Bundesliga and achieved consistency in his performances. Kim Min-jae started every Bundesliga game during the first half of the season.
Things started changing for Kim Min-jae after playing for South Korea at the Asian Cup. He struggled for form after returning from the tournament. The South Korean defender lost his place in the starting XI as Tuchel trusted the center-back partnership of Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Dier. Kim Min-jae returned to the starting XI against Real Madrid at Allianz Arena, but he made costly mistakes in this game.
Bayern and Kim Min-jae have no plans to part ways this summer. Kompany was a fantastic central defender for Manchester City. The South Korean defender has the ideal mentor to get back to his best. Kompany can utilize Kim Min-jae’s qualities in and out of possession to implement an attractive style of football. It will not be a big surprise if Kim Min-jae becomes a mainstay in the starting XI next season.
