Harry Kane unlikely to equal or break Robert Lewandowski’s record

Harry Kane, like so many of Bayern’s players, was given a rest against Wolfsburg to heal from his back injury. With only the consolidation of second place in the table to play for, the decision to let injuries heal took precedence over chasing the Bundesliga single-season goal record tally of 41.

Kane has 36 Bundesliga goals to his name this season. With just one round of matches left, the England captain is ten clear of second-placed Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart. Unfortunately, though, he will not be able to match Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in one season barring a goal-glut on the final matchday.

Additionally, Kane’s tally of 36 goals also tops this season’s European Golden Shoe standings. His nearest competitor, Kylian Mbappe of PSG, has 27 goals this season with two matches left in Ligue 1. Coincidentally both Kane and Mbappe are tied for first place in this season’s Champions League with eight goals apiece.

As things stand, Harry Kane is in line for at least two outright top goalscorer titles for the 2023/24 season; not a bad haul for his debut Bundesliga season despite the still elusive team success.
