There was no major last-minute activity from Bayern Munich as the transfer window in Germany and most of Europe’s other top leagues closed on Friday. The only player movement involving Bayern on Friday was that of promising young attacking midfielder Gabriel Vidovic going to Mainz on a season-long loan.

With Kingsley Coman having decided to remain in Bavaria for the season, despite an offer for him from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, we now conclude Bayern’s 2024/25 squad preview with a look at the attacking department, starting with the striker position.

Center-forward options

Harry Kane will once again lead the attack for Bayern. At 31, the England captain is still one of the best strikers in the world. Despite not winning any team trophies, in terms of goals scored, Kane had a dream debut season in Germany. Not only was he the Bundesliga’s top scorer, but he also copped the European Golden Shoe award with his 36 league goals.

With the disappointment of the Euro 2024 final 2-1 loss to Spain now behind him, Kane is ready to pick up where he left off last season. In Bayern’s season-opening 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg, he didn’t score but he looked sharp and played a part in all three goals. It’s expected that he will get his name on the scoresheet when Bayern hosts Freiburg later today.

In terms of a backup to Kane, Die Roten does not possess a like-for-like player. However, Mathys Tel and Thomas Müller are capable alternatives. Last season was a breakout one for the 19-year-old Tel and this season, he will be looking to score much more than the ten goals he scored last season.

Thomas Müller has always had an eye for goal. In the first round of this season’s DFB-Pokal against Ulm it was no different, Vincent Kompany deployed the 34-year-old as the lone-striker in Bayern’s customary 4-2-3-1 formation. Müller duly repaid the faith shown in him by scoring a brace en route to a 4-0 win.
