Bayern Munich set to start afresh next season without Thomas Tuchel
The last ten days have been very chaotic for Bayern Munich on and off the pitch. They have lost a lot of ground in the Bundesliga title race after losing two consecutive games. Die Roten are also trailing in the Champions League round of 16 clash against Lazio after suffering a 1-0 defeat in Rome.
The three consecutive defeats have led to a lot of speculation around the future of Thomas Tuchel. Bayern chiefs have consistently insisted that Tuchel will not be sacked midway through the season. However, it does look like Bayern have lost faith in Tuchel to take the team forward.
Bayern released a statement on Wednesday to provide clarity on Tuchel’s long-term future in Bavaria. The Bavarian club has decided to part ways with the German coach at the end of the season. Tuchel will continue to work on achieving the targets for the ongoing campaign.
Die Roten have not lost many games this season, but the manner of defeats certainly raised big questions about Tuchel. The German coach has been criticised for not implementing a clear style of play despite arriving at the club ten months ago.
The three defeats in the last ten days were certainly the final nail in the coffin for Tuchel at Bayern. Moreover, there has also been a dressing room split over the coach. Once you lose control of the dressing room, it becomes difficult for a club to stick with a head coach.
Tuchel reportedly wanted to stay in Munich until the end of his deal, which was set to expire in 2025. The German coach will not have to stay out of the game for long since there will be vacancies at several big clubs across Europe in the summer. Tuchel has already been linked with a move to FC Barcelona. The Spanish club will need a new head coach since Xavi is set to leave at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany is reporting that Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is the top target for Bayern. The Spanish coach is helping Bayer Leverkusen to win their first Bundesliga title as they lead the league table by eight points. Die Roten will face competition from Liverpool for the signature of Alonso. The Merseyside club will look for a new coach in the summer since Jurgen Klopp is leaving the role after eight years.
Apart from Alonso, there will be several coaches linked to Bayern in the next three months. The announcement from Die Roten on Thursday gives more clarity to players and Tuchel. The German coach will look to end his time at Die Roten with two trophies.
