Bayern Munich witnessed a couple of changes to the goalkeeper department over the last 12 months. The injury to Manuel in December 2022 forced Bayern to sign Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Swiss goalkeeper stayed in Munich for six months before joining Inter Milan in the summer. Die Roten replaced Sommer by signing Daniel Peretz from Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Manuel Neuer has made a good return to action after recovering from a serious leg injury. The German international brought an end to uncertainty over his future by signing a contract until 2025 in December. Sven Ulreich also signed a new deal to remain Neuer’s deputy until the end of next season.
Peretz could go out on loan next summer to get consistent playing time. Along with Peretz, Bayern also have a decision to make regarding the long-term future of Alexander Nubel. The former Schalke goalkeeper is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart.
According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern want to clarify Nubel’s future next month. The Bavarian club is ready to extend Nubel’s contract and send him back to Stuttgart on loan for one more season. Nubel is undecided about his future beyond the current campaign, while his salary demands could be a stumbling block for Stuttgart to continue the loan deal.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been in fine form for Stuttgart this season. Stuttgart have previously expressed interest in signing him permanently, but it is not a financially feasible deal for them. A strong campaign with Stuttgart will see other clubs showing interest in Nubel.
Bayern probably consider Nubel as a strong contender to succeed Neuer in 2025. They had signed him from Schalke as potential long-term successor of the experienced German goalkeeper. However, Nubel spent one season on the bench before going out on loan to Monaco for two years.
Nubel has no plans to stay at Bayern if he is not going to start every week. He will not be playing in Munich next season. Rekordmeister will have to convince him about the long-term future in Bavaria. They will send him out on loan if he signs a new deal. If he decides against signing a new contract, Bayern will have to cash in since his current contract expires in 2025.
The record Bundesliga champions should be proactive when it comes to a succession plan for Neuer. The experienced goalkeeper is in fine form right now, but sooner rather than later, there will be a dip in his performances. At that time, Die Roten should have his long-term successor ready in the squad.
