Bayern Munich are the in-form team in Europe, winning every game this season across all competitions. The Bavarian club continued their fantastic start to the season on Saturday with an emphatic 5-0 win away at Werder Bremen. Bayern stayed at the top of the points table in the Bundesliga courtesy of the win against Bremen.

The performance away at Werder Bremen was particularly impressive since the hosts didn’t have a single shot on target. Bayern scored five goals, but on another day, they may have ended with more goals.

Kompany has managed to hit the ground running after being appointed as the new head coach of Bayern in the summer. The Belgian coach was not the top choice for Die Roten, but he has managed to silence the critics early in his tenure.

The sample size is small, but the manner of performances this season has made Bayern a team to beat in the Bundesliga. While talking to Sport 1 Dopa (via iMiaSanMia), Werder Bremen’s sporting director, Clemens Fritz, admitted that Bayern’s football this season is similar to the style of football they used to play under Pep Guardiola.

"I felt like I was back in the days under Pep Guardiola. Bayern played with a lot of intensity and had incredible ball control. In the recent past, Bayern always gave you phases where you could gain possession of the ball and find your own structure. But yesterday there was such an intensity that even in the 88th minute, Kompany was still pushing his players from the sideline, and the players also wanted to keep going. This counter-pressing didn't give us any time to breathe."

Early signs are promising, but tougher tests await Kompany

It is a big compliment for Kompany that the opposition is thinking that his style of football is like that of Pep Guardiola. However, it is not surprising to see that since Kompany is certainly influenced by the Spanish coach after playing under him at Manchester City.

The Belgian coach has shown a lot of tactical fluidity by using different systems in the first four league games of the season. Kompany has also got all forwards firing all cylinders. He has rotated well, giving the majority of players an adequate amount of game time to impress on the pitch.

The start to the season under Vincent Kompany has been impressive, but Die Roten’s performances in big games will give more clarity. The first big test for Kompany will be next week’s big Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen at Allianz Arena. The defending champions have not started the campaign in the best form, but they troubled Bayern last season.

Bayern cannot afford to go another season without a trophy. Kompany will not get giddy with the early season form since he will be judged at the end of the season with silverware. A win against Bayer Leverkusen next weekend will certainly confirm to an extent that Bayern mean business this season.
