Joshua Kimmich
Joshua Kimmich had a solid game at both ends of the pitch against the Danes. With Germany taking the game to the opposition from the start, the right-back was heavily involved in attack. In the 6th minute, Kimmich found space to unleash a rocket from 25 yards which Kasper Schmeichel pushed over the crossbar for a corner.
When he wasn’t supporting the attack, Kimmich was a reliable outlet on the right side of defense throughout most of the match and defended well enough when he had to.
Leroy Sané
Leroy Sané started in place of Florian Wirtz, a rather surprising decision from Nagelsmann. He was deployed on the right wing with Musiala shifting over to the left.
Sané was one of three players given their first start of the tournament. Whilst Nico Schlotterbeck at center-back and David Raum at left-back justified the coach’s selection with their performances, the same can’t be said of Sané.
Sané played 88 minutes without registering a shot on target or a key pass. Nagelsmann can be given credit for calling on the 28-year-old attacker for this match in the hopes that the player could have risen to the occasion. However, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that Wirtz, who saw only 9 minutes of action, after replacing Musiala, looked more impressive than Sané. (All stats courtesy of Sofascore).
