Germany are through to the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 with a deserved 2-0 victory over Denmark. Similar to the final group stage game against Switzerland, the Germans started brightly. In the fourth minute of play, Nico Schlotterbeck appeared to have given Julian Nagelsmann's side the lead with an excellent header directly from a Toni Kroos corner but, following VAR review, the goal was chalked off for a foul by Joshua Kimmich in the box.

Despite the match being suspended for 20 minutes late on in the first-half due to inclement weather, the host nation always looked the more likely to open the scoring even with the 0-0 half-time scoreline.

Germany secured the 2-0 victory in the second-half courtesy of a penalty from Kai Havertz and a solo effort from Jamal Musiala. Here we now take a look at how the Bayern Munich contingent performed against the Danes.

Manuel Neuer

Manuel Neuer was once again in top form against Denmark. Early on, with Germany dominating possession, Neuer didn’t have much to do. However, as the match progressed the Danes came into their own. Just before the half-time whistle Rasmus Højlund was played through on goal, but the sweeper-keeper managed to quickly close down the space and parry the effort.

Roughly midway through the second-half with the Germans leading 1-0, Højlund, this time around, tried to beat Neuer with power instead of finesse from inside the box.

The keeper once again thwarted his attempt on goal. Neuer was also heavily involved in distribution from the back. He made himself available to his defenders whenever other passing outlets were denied. It was his neat pass, from outside the box, to Schlotterbeck that allowed the German defender to set up Musiala for Germany’s second goal.
