Joshua Kimmich

Similar to the two previous games, Joshua Kimmich played the full 90 minutes at right-back. It wasn’t a bad game per se from the 29-year-old. However, it wasn’t quite at the level required on the day.

Switzerland’s goal came, from the right side of the German defense when Fabian Rieder played Remo Freuler through into the German penalty area by sliding a pass between Kimmich and Antonio Rüdiger. Dan Ndoye got on the end of Freuler’s cross to make it 1-0.

Leroy Sané

Leroy Sané had another below par outing off the bench. He once again replaced Florian Wirtz in the second half but failed to have a telling impact on the game despite his strong effort.

With the knockout phase up next, Sané needs to regain some sort of form sooner rather than later. Thomas Müller remained an unused substitute for the second game in a row. It won’t be surprising if he gets the nod ahead of Sané before the end of the tournament.
