Bayern Munich have found it difficult to address the right-back position during the winter transfer window. They decided to abandon the pursuit of Kieran Trippier after Newcastle United rejected their two offers, while negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for Nordi Mukiele have been complex.

There was a good possibility of Bayern not signing a right-back since time is running out. However, Konrad Laimer’s injury on Wednesday against Union Berlin has forced them to look for a right-back in the final days of the window. The Austrian midfielder has been ruled out for six weeks. He has been deployed in the right-back position by Thomas Tuchel for several games this season.

After finding it difficult to sign Trippier and Mukiele, Bayern have stepped up their efforts to sign Sacha Boey from Galatasaray. According to Sky Sports in Germany, the Bavarian club has already opened talks with Galatasaray to sign Boey on a permanent deal.

Le Parisien and Fabrizio Romano have reported Bayern’s first bid for the French full-back. The record Bundesliga champions have offered €15 million plus bonuses for Boey. The Turkish club is reportedly looking to get €20 million for the French defender.

The 23-year-old defender was linked with Bayern at the start of the winter transfer window. He was not a concrete option for Die Roten as they were looking to sign defenders on loan deals. However, Bayern’s stance has changed in the past few days. They tried to sign Trippier on a permanent deal before making a move for Boey.

Bayern and Thomas Tuchel got a chance to see Boey play closely this season in the Champions League. Galatasaray were draw against Bayern in the same group. Boey has been Galatasaray’s first-choice right-back this season. He is defensively solid but needs to become much more efficient when he is in the final third.

The signing of Boey will allow Bayern to play Laimer consistently in the midfield. Noussair Mazraoui will return to Munich from AFCON in February, which will bolster Tuchel’s right-back options. Boey and Mazraoui will compete for a place in the starting XI if the former seals a move to Munich in the next six days.

Boey is likely to be the only signing Bayern will make before next week’s deadline day. The Bavarian club has strengthened central defense by signing Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur. They were expected to look for a defensive midfielder, but that area of the pitch will be addressed in the summer.
