Bayern Munich have been actively trying to strengthen several areas of the squad this summer. They have already strengthened the attack by signing Michael Olise. Bayern remain interested in signing one more attacking player, but it is unlikely to be a striker.

According to TZ Munchen, Bayern bosses are not looking to sign a striker to replace the outgoing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

TZ reports that Vincent Kompany and his staff are impressed by Mathys Tel. The Frenchman has impressed with his physicality, technique, finishing, and pace during the first week of pre-season training. Tel is determined to hit the ground running in the coming season.

Should these reports be correct, Die Roten's decision to not release Tel to play for France at the Olympics later this summer will be vindicated. Tel would not have had the chance to impress Kompany if he was away with France.

Tel's numbers were impressive last season. In just six Bundesliga starts across the 23/24 season, Tel scored seven goals and provided five assists. He averaged a goal every second game and two goal contributions per start last season. Even in the Champions League, Tel started one game but was able to chip in with two goals and one assist.

Considering how much he has contributed to Bayern's first team, and the way he has now had two seasons at the club, it is easy to forget that Tel is still just 19. With all the young players coming through today, it gets a bit lost how hard it is to play regular games at a club of Bayern Munich's stature whilst still only being a teenager.

So where can Tel fit into the Bayern XI under Vincent Kompany? Well, the number 9 spot is currently occupied by Harry Kane, but that doesn't mean that Tel can't and won't start. The French forward had some cameos playing upfront with Kane last season and also made some appearances off the left.

In the victory over Bochum last September, Tel scored off the bench after being fed the ball by Kane, cutting inside and finessing the ball past the goalkeeper. He came on in the Champions League group game against Copenhagen - within a few minutes, Kane played Thomas Muller in-behind, who teed up Tel to score.

Kompany generally started with a 4-2-3-1 formation at Burnley. So whilst that means he is unlikely to start with Tel and Kane up front, it is plausible that he starts Tel off the left-hand side.

In the 4-2-3-1 system, Kompany can Olise off the right, Musiala as the 'number 10', Tel off the left, and Kane up front. He could also try Musiala off the left, Olise as the number 10, and Tel off the right as the three behind Kane, but the former idea is the more probable one.

Regardless, with Bayern's international stars, such as Kane, currently resting up on holiday, Tel will have plenty of minutes to show what he can do during Bayern's pre-season campaign.
