Along with players, several coaches will be linked with Bayern Munich in the coming weeks. The Bavarian club confirmed the departure of Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Inconsistent results and poor February forced Bayern to part ways with the German coach.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is the top target for Bayern. The Bavarian club is impressed by the work done by the Spaniard at Leverkusen. However, Liverpool are also strongly linked with Alonso to replace Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
Julian Nagelsmann has also been surprisingly linked with a return to Bayern Munich. However, Sky Sports in Germany (via iMiaSanMia) is reporting that Bayern are currently not considering the return of Nagelsmann. The German coach is expected to be available for a new role as his contract with Germany ends after Euro 2024 in the summer.
Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern in March 2023 due to inconsistent performances over the pitch. He lasted just over 18 months at Die Roten, helping the club win the Bundesliga title. Even though performances were inconsistent during his second season, Bayern were well alive in all competitions when Die Roten parted ways with him.
It will take a crazy turn of events if Bayern goes ahead with the appointment with Nagelsmann. The German coach had joined the club for a long-term project, but he didn’t get enough time to turn things around. Even though the management has changed at Bayern, it is difficult to see Nagelsmann returning to Bavaria so soon.
The 36-year-old will have plenty of options in the summer. If he enjoys a good Euros with Germany, DFB may extend his contract. Liverpool and Barcelona are looking for new coaches, while the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea may also have a coaching change for next season. In such a scenario, Nagelsmann will definitely feature on the list of targets of all big clubs.
Hansi Flick has also been linked with a return to Bayern. However, the German coach is reportedly looking for a new project. Flick has been heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona. It will be a big surprise if Flick returns to Munich in the summer.
Bayern will primarily focus on getting Xabi Alonso. If the Spaniard is not interested in a move to Munich, they will look at alternatives. Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi reportedly features on the list of alternatives for Bayern. The record Bundesliga Champions will definitely look for fresh ideas instead of bringing one of their former coaches.
