Bayern Munich are planning a squad overhaul in the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club will make changes across the three departments (defense, midfield, and attack) of the squad. In terms of defense, Bayern are expected to sign a central defender to bolster the squad.

Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo was Bayern’s primary transfer target in January. The Uruguayan defender and Barcelona were not interested in a transfer midway through the season. The record Bundesliga champions are expected to test Barcelona’s resolve in the summer. Araujo is not the only Barcelona defender Bayern are keenly following.

According to Footmercato, Bayern are closely monitoring the situation of young defender Mikayil Faye. The 19-year-old defender has played for Barcelona’s reserves team this season. His strong performances at the youth level have earned him a senior cap for Senegal.

Die Roten have been impressed by Faye’s performance at the youth level. He is expected to play at the senior level sooner rather than later. Apart from Die Roten, RC Lens are also interested in Faye. Barcelona are eager to keep him, as they rejected offers from Lens and Girona during the winter transfer window.

Bayern are probably looking at Faye as a transfer for the reserves team in the short term. He may get the opportunity to train with the senior team. The Bavarian club has been focusing on signing young players who can eventually become crucial players for the first team. The likes of Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies were signed before they became superstars.

Faye currently has four years left on his contract at FC Barcelona. The Spanish club will not easily agree to a deal for the youngster since he is very close to knocking on the doors of the first team. It will take a significant offer from Bayern to change Barcelona’s mind about keeping Faye.

Bayern already have a solid young defender in Tarek Buchmann. The young defender was expected to train with the first team this season and make his debut under Thomas Tuchel. However, injuries have kept him on the sidelines for the entire campaign. Bayern will hope that there are no long-term consequences of an injury-ravaged campaign for Buchmann.

The Bavarian club is expected to be active in the transfer window to strengthen the youth teams. Christoph Freund did a great job at RB Salzburg in terms of finding young talents who went on to become established first-team players. Die Roten are hoping to see Freund achieve similar success in Bavaria, so it is not surprising to see them linked with young players like Mikayil Faye.
