Bayern Munich midfielder will be fit for Euros despite injury setback
It has been an exceptional 12 months for Aleksandar Pavlovic at Bayern Munich. The 20-year-old midfielder established himself in the first team after his debut in October 2023. Pavlovic ended an incredible campaign on a sour note as he was substituted in the first half against Hoffenheim on Saturday due to an injury.
The young German midfielder is part of Germany’s provisional squad for the Euros in the summer. He was unlucky not to debut for Germany in March due to tonsilitis. As things stand, Saturday’s injury will not keep Pavlovic away from the pitch for long.
While talking to Bild, Pavlovic revealed that his injury was not serious. He is confident about being fit for the European Championship. The youngster will continue his recovery at Sabner Strasse before joining the national team in the coming days.
Pavlovic will not be the first-choice midfielder for Germany. However, he will get adequate game time if Germany goes deep in the competition. Julian Nagelsmann has suggested that Pavlovic can learn from Toni Kroos while training for the German squad. Kroos came out of retirement to play for Germany in the Euros.
Nagelsmann can rely on Pavlovic to play in big games. He has the temperament and composure to excel at the biggest stage. Pavlovic was excellent at Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid in the Champions League. The youngster also excelled in the big Bundesliga games throughout the season. He was tidy with the ball and worked hard out of possession.
Pavlovic will have a lot of support from Bayern players in the national team. The Bavarian club has six players selected in Germany’s provisional squad for the Euros. Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer will play their last big competition for Germany. Leroy Sane, Joshua Kimmich, Pavlovic, and Jamal Musiala will look to win their first trophy with the national team.
Sane and Musiala are also recovering from their respective injuries. They sat out of the last two league games of the season for Bayern. Nagelsmann and Bayern are confident about the attacking duo being fit for the clash against Scotland on June 15.
Serge Gnabry unfortunately missed out on a place in the German squad due to a hamstring injury. He was in fine form for Bayern after recovering from a serious muscle injury that kept him out for three months. Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka was left out of the squad despite delivering good performances for Bayern in the last three months.
