Along with laying the groundwork for summer transfers, Bayern Munich also have to find a new coach for the next season during the next couple of months. After disappointing performances in the Bundesliga, the Bavarian club decided to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Christoph Freund and Max Eberl are working together to find the right candidate for the head coach position. Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is Bayern’s top candidate to replace Tuchel, but Uli Hoeness believes that signing the Spaniard will be difficult in the summer.

Alongside Alonso, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Aston Villa’s Unai Emery also feature on Bayern’s shortlist to replace Tuchel. Eberl is sounding out all the coaches on the club’s shortlist, as he reportedly held talks with De Zerbi in the last few weeks.

With just over two months left in the season, Bayern need to accelerate the process of reaching an agreement for their next coach. While talking to Sky Sports in Germany, Eberl revealed the possible timeframe for Bayern to get a deal done for a new coach.

""As soon as possible. We are now entering April. It would be nice if we could get it done in April - without there being an ultimatum. If it takes longer, then it takes a bit longer. We want to make the best decision.""

Eberl also confirmed talks with De Zerbi during this interview. The Bavarian club is not being rigid this time in terms of having a German-speaking coach. They have largely appointed coaches who spoke German in the last few seasons.

Die Roten have lacked stability in the coaching position since Pep Guardiola left Munich in 2016. The long-term plan with Julian Nagelsmann was thrown out of the window after 18 months. Tuchel has managed to stay in Munich for just over 12 months. Bayern need a coach that can bring stability in performances and silverware over the next few seasons.

Bayern will have to be aggressive in terms of finding a new coach since several big clubs are looking for a new head coach. Liverpool and FC Barcelona have already announced the departures of their current coaches at the end of the season, while Chelsea and Manchester United could potentially join the list of clubs looking for a new coach.

Eberl is not giving up on the hope of Bayern retaining the Bundesliga title. The defending champions are ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen after 26 games. Die Roten will have to win all their remaining eight games and hope Bayer Leverkusen falter in the final phase of the season. The Bavarian club will resume the Bundesliga campaign after the international break against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
