After a quiet couple of weeks, Bayern Munich are stepping up transfer activity. The Bavarian club wants to complete the defensive overhaul by signing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen. Die Roten had the first bid rejected during the Euro 2024. The Bavarian club has returned with another offer for the German defender.
According to Kicker, Bayern have made a second bid for Tah worth €20 million fixed plus €5 million add-ons. Bayer Leverkusen are expected to reject the bid as they value the German defender close to €40 million. Die Roten will not match Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price since Tah has entered the final year of his contract.
Tah has no intentions to sign a new deal at Bayer Leverkusen. He has already agreed personal terms with Bayern. The German international will be free to negotiate with interested clubs for a free transfer in January if he fails to complete a move to Bavaria this summer.
Bayern have already bolstered their central defense by signing Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart. Tah was a key player for Bayer Leverkusen in their Bundesliga title triumph last season. He will bring experience and quality to Die Roten’s defense if the transfer goes through in the coming weeks.
Unless there is a breakthrough in talks between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen, Tah will start the pre-season training with Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
Bayern need sales in central defense
Bayern Munich also need to make space for the two defensive signings. The Bavarian club is open to selling Matthijs de Ligt this summer. Manchester United have shown concrete interest in the Dutch defender, but they are reluctant to meet Die Roten’s asking price.
The Bavarian club wants €50 million plus add-ons for De Ligt. Manchester United had one bid rejected worth fixed €30 million plus €5 million in add-ons. The Dutch defender has already agreed personal terms with Manchester United. Bayern need sales to make further signings, so the departure of De Ligt is crucial for their transfer plans. The Dutch defender's move to Old Trafford will effectively fund the signing of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen.
