Bayern Munich got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga on Saturday as they clinched a 2-0 win against FC Koln. It was a crucial win after Tuesday’s resilient performance against Arsenal. However, the win against FC Koln was overshadowed by the injury to Kingsley Coman.
The French winger came off in the 50th minute due to a thigh injury. It does look like this thigh injury will end Coman’s season. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Coman will be out for several weeks, missing the remainder of the campaign.
While talking to the media after the game, Thomas Tuchel was downbeat after being quizzed about Coman. The French forward was rushed to hospital for further scans as soon as he came off the pitch. Bayern later confirmed that Coman had injured the adductor muscle of his right thigh.
It has been a frustrating Ruckrunde for Coman. The French forward missed February and March due to a knee injury. After the thigh injury on Saturday, Coman will effectively miss the entire second half of the season.
Coman’s injury is a massive blow for Bayern ahead of next week’s big game against Arsenal. The Bavarian club is already without Serge Gnabry for this game due to a minor injury. Coman was expected to replace Gnabry in the starting lineup on Wednesday when Arsenal visits Allianz Arena.
In the absence of Coman and Gnabry, Tuchel will have Thomas Muller, Mathys Tel, and Bryan Zaragoza as the options to start on the left flank. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting can also play on the left flank. Leroy Sane’s fitness is also a cause for concern ahead of the game against Arsenal.
The German forward missed the game against FC Koln. His workload has been managed in the last few weeks since he has been carrying a minor injury. Tuchel will hope that Leroy Sane is fit to start against Arsenal. Sane was one of Bayern’s best performers in the 2-2 draw in London against Arsenal on Tuesday.
Manuel Neuer was rested against FC Koln since he returned from a muscle injury in the first leg against Arsenal. Tuchel is confident about seeing Neuer start against Mikel Arteta’s men on Wednesday. Aleksandar Pavlovic also got minutes under his belt against FC Koln after not playing in the last three games due to illness. Raphael Guerreiro and Noussair Mazraoui delivered good performances on Saturday. They are competing for the left-back position against Arsenal. Alphonso Davies is suspended for the second leg.
