Central-Defense marginally improved but still looks uncertain

The central-defensive duo of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae looked slightly improved from a week ago as Bayern kept a clean sheet. However, it wasn’t a commanding performance that a center-back pairing of Bayern should deliver every week.

Despite having just 33% ball possession, Freiburg managed to fire off nine shots, compared to 12 from Bayern, with each team registering three on target. Upamecano picked up the only booking of the game (a yellow card) in the first half. At times he struggled to get in the tackle. Upamecano was replaced by Leon Goretzka in the final minute of regulation time.

Kim Min-jae delivered a much-improved performance compared to a week ago, but his confidence hasn’t yet fully returned. Fans will be hoping that Upamecano and Min-jae build on the performance against Freiburg.
