Bayern Munich: Herbert Hainer wants more youth players in senior squad
Thomas Tuchel tweaked his tactics against VfB Stuttgart to earn a comfortable 3-0 win on Sunday. Bayern Munich were rocked with last-minute absentees as Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich fell sick on matchday. Tuchel had set up his team to soak the pressure against Stuttgart and be ruthless on the counter-attack.
Aleksandar Pavlovic had the duty of keeping Die Roten solid in the center of the park. The young midfielder kept things simple and helped Bayern to make the most of whatever possession they had in the game. He also provided the assist for the third goal with an accurate delivery from set-piece.
Thomas Tuchel spoke glowingly about Pavlovic after the game. The German coach has been impressed by the maturity shown by the youngster. It does look like Pavlovic may get more opportunities with the first team as the season progresses.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer also praised Pavlovic for his performance against VfB Stuttgart. While talking to Bild (via Fussballtransfers), Hainer admitted that he wants to see more young players from campus playing for the first team. He also insisted that the appointment of Christoph Freund was made to achieve this target.
""We will always spend money to bring in a top international star. But we want to develop more players from our own youth. That was one of the reasons why we brought in Christoph Freund. We want to strengthen the Campus and develop players ourselves.""
- Bayern Munich President Herbert Hainer
Freund did a terrific job at developing young talent at RB Salzburg. The Austrian manager is looking to find the right balance when it comes to getting star players from the transfer market and integrating young players from the academy. He has already appointed highly-rated coach Rene Maric as team lead coaching development and game planning. Maric will be working closely to strengthen the interface between Sabner Strasse and the Bayern campus.
The last few years have been fairly good for Die Roten when it comes to seeing young players becoming key players for the first team. Josip Stanisic steadily improved by playing more for the senior team. He is expected to be part of the squad next season when he returns from his loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen.
Jamal Musiala arrived from Chelsea at a very young age. After playing some time for the youth team, he was seamlessly integrated into the first team. He is currently one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in the world.
Bayern can always sign star players, but they don’t have endless resources like state-backed clubs. It is crucial for them to make sure that they get good talent from their academy, along with dipping in the market for established players. The next couple of years will give a good idea of how Die Roten will develop young talent under the leadership of Freund.
