Raphael Guerreiro

Thomas Tuchel, having been a fan of Raphael Guerreiro when he coached him at Dortmund, endorsed the signing of the Portuguese international. Known primarily as a left-back, Guerreiro has morphed into a competent midfielder in recent years, and as a result, similar to Laimer, has added flexibility to the squad.

Guerreiro had to battle injuries throughout most of the Hinrunde, but in the last two games before the winter break, with Kimmich and Goretzka unavailable due to illness, he was proficient as one half of the midfield double pivot alongside youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic. Though a small sample size, his performances in those two victories against Stuttgart (3-0) and Wolfsburg (1-2) suggest that Tuchel got it right with this signing.  For coming good in the face of adversity the left-back cum midfielder gets a deserved 8/10.
