Bayern Munich completed the majority of their winter transfer business in the final ten days of January. The Bavarian club completed deals for Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza before the deadline day. In terms of departures, Bayern will see their last mid-season departure happen on Tuesday.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Frans Kratzig is set to join Austria Wien on a six-month loan deal. Kratzig is currently in Austria to complete the formalities of the transfer. All parties are hopeful of completing the move before the transfer window in Austria comes to an end later today.

Kratzig was attracting interest from Standard Liege, but there were no negotiations between both clubs. The 21-year-old left-back eventually decided to stay in Munich and reassess his situation in the summer. Kratzig was hoping to get game time in the first team during the second half of the season.

However, Austria Wien pushed for a loan deal over the weekend and eventually convinced Kratzig to complete the transfer. Bayern have given the green signal to the move. The Bavarian club will hope that Kratzig will play regularly for Austria Wien in the next six months. He is expected to make his debut for Austria Wein later this week against Hartberg later this week.

Bayern currently have two left-backs in the senior team. Alphonso Davies has started the majority of games this season, while Raphael Guerreiro is a good deputy for the Canadian defender. In such a scenario, Kratzig would have found it difficult to get meaningful game time during Ruckrunde.

The Bavarian club will hope Kratzig will return from Austria Wien in the summer with significant game time under his belt. The 21-year-old defender will look for a loan move to a Bundesliga club in the summer to continue his development. Bayern have high hopes for Kratzig after his impressive performances during the last pre-season tour. He extended his contract at Die Roten until 2027 and made five appearances during the first half of the season.

In terms of left-back position, Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for the weekend’s game against Bayer Leverkusen. The Canadian left-back suffered injury during the win against Borussia Monchengladbach. He is expected to be out for three weeks due to this injury. Guerreiro is expected to start for Die Roten in the next few games. Noussair Mazraoui is also an option in the left-back position due to his prior experience of playing in that role for Rekordmeister.
