Leroy Sané

For the second game in a row, Julian Nagelsmann decided to give Leroy Sané the start on the right wing instead of Florian Wirtz. In hindsight, for the second consecutive game, it also proved to be the wrong decision.

Sané had little impact on the game during the first 45 minutes and was replaced by Wirtz for the second-half. Throughout most of the tournament, the 28-year-old attacker seemed to off his game. Perhaps, his struggles can be explained by the recurrence of his injury.

Thomas Müller

In the 80th minute, Julian Nagelsmann rolled his final attacking dice by replacing Jonathan Tah with Thomas Müller. The 34-year-old attacker had a chance to win it for Germany in added time, but shot just wide of goal from inside the box after getting onto the end of a cross from Joshua Kimmich.

In extra time, Müller tried his best to swing the tide in favor of the host nation but, showing signs of rust, his efforts came up just short. It was truly a sad sight at the end to see him with tears in his eyes after what may very well have been his last game for Germany. (Stats courtesy: Fotmob)
