Manuel Neuer
Manuel Neuer may have been beaten twice on the day but his overall performance wasn’t lacking. The goals he conceded were a result of Spanish proficiency and indecisive defending.
In the very first minute, when his outfield players were caught cold, Neuer was alert to deny Pedri from giving Spain the lead with a shot from just outside the box.
The sweeper-keeper made four saves in total and was involved throughout the match with 52 touches. His distribution was also on point once again. Based on his performances at Euro 2024, the Bayern faithful can be pleased to still have the 38-year-old veteran between the sticks for the upcoming season.
Jamal Musiala
Jamal Musiala started on the left wing and played the entire game. He had a rough evening against the Spaniards; and was fouled four times, including two rugby tackles. The 21-year-old attacker was also often double-teamed. However, despite the treatment meted out, he did have his moments.
Musiala completed 85% of his passes (28/33) and managed to create one chance. He also helped out in defense, with two blocked shots and two interceptions.
This was the only game of the tournament in which Musiala wasn’t substituted inside of 90 minutes. Yet, in extra time he somehow managed to display a second wind, which notably came after the introduction of Florian Wirtz. This occurrence certainly augurs well for his future, and he was also unlucky not to have won his side a penalty in extra time.
