Bayern Munich have managed to build some momentum in the last seven days by clinching wins against Lazio and Mainz. The win against Lazio was particularly impressive as Die Roten needed a convincing win to book a place in the Champions League quarter-finals. Bayern backed up the mid-week win with a strong attacking performance against Mainz on Saturday.

Die Roten have looked more assured in defense over the last few games. Thomas Tuchel has stuck with the center-back partnership of Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Dier during this period. Both defenders have done well in and out of possession.

Dier activated the clause in his contract to make the transfer to Bayern permanent by playing regularly in the last few weeks. The English defender will stay in Munich at least until the end of the next season.

The former Spurs defender has been in sublime form for Bayern. He has stepped up for them in a difficult period. While talking to The Sun last week (via iMiaSanMia), Dier was hopeful about earning a return to the English national team by playing regularly for Bayern until the end of the season.

""If I am playing for a club like Bayern and if I am playing well, I should have a good chance. Why not? I have not spoken to Gareth [Southgate] but it is up to me to play well. The national team is a really simple thing. You try to play as well as possible for your club and everything else is out of your control.""

Dier has previously featured in England’s squad under Gareth Southgate. He was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2022. Dier was not selected during the last few international breaks since his game time drastically decreased at Spurs in the last 12 months.

The 30-year-old defender hopes that a strong end to the season with Bayern will help him to make it to the squad for the Euros in the summer. Tuchel hinted towards sticking with De Ligt and Dier in the upcoming games due to their collective performances in defense.

It remains to be seen where Dier will fit into Bayern’s plans under a new coach. He is expected to be a squad player next season. The Bavarian club is expected to strengthen the defense in the summer, so Dier may find it difficult to get consistent playing time as he has enjoyed in the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, Sacha Boey also hopes to get a place in the French squad for the Euros in the summer. The 23-year-old full-back moved to Bavaria from Galatasaray in January. Boey had an injury setback in February but was back in training last week. The French defender will be eyeing a strong end to the season with Die Roten.
