Bayern Munich have always looked for temporary deals in the winter transfer window. They have been opportunistic during winter instead of looking for long-term targets. However, the situation is different for Bayern this year due to a poor end to the summer transfer window.

The Bavarian club is looking to strengthen the defense in January since they will have only two center-backs available for selection over the next few weeks. The search for a quality defender has led Bayern to enquire about a Serie A defender.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern have enquired about AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori's availability in the winter transfer window. The English defender is currently on the sidelines due to injury, but his injury is not expected to be serious enough to keep him out for a long time.

Bayern and Christoph Freund have internally discussed Tomori as a possible option to improve the defense. However, AC Milan are not keen on selling their key defender during the winter transfer window. Despite Milan's hesitance to sell Tomori, Bayern may think about testing the waters by making a formal bid for the England international.

After leaving Chelsea in 2021, Tomori has gone from strength to strength at AC Milan. He won a Serie A title with the club. His impressive performances at the club level has helped him to earn caps for the Three Lions. The 26-year-old defender can become first choice center-back for England in the near future.

AC Milan are in full control of Tomori's future since his current deal expired in 2027. Bayern will have to come up with a super offer to alter AC Milan's stance on Tomori. As things stand, it does look highly unlikely that Tomori will make a move to Munich before the end of January.

While Tomori is a quality center-back, he is not a versatile defender. Bayern are looking for a defender that can play in center-back and right-back positions. They are effectively looking a direct replacement of Benjamin Pavard. The French international left Die Roten in the final week of the summer window to join Inter Milan.

Bayern's top target for strengthening the defense is Barcelona's Ronaldo Araujo. The Uruguayan defender reportedly held talks with Tuchel and Bayern. However, he is not leaving the Spanish club in January. In such a scenario, Bayern have to explore other options such as Tomori. The next few days should give the Bavarian faithful more clarity on the club's transfer plans for winter.
