Bayern Munich competing with Chelsea for top Brazilian talent
Courtesy of the devastating loss at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the Champions League on Wednesday, Bayern Munich will end the season without a trophy. It will be Bayern’s first trophyless campaign in 11 years. They lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen and got knocked out in the DFB Pokal against Saarbrucken. In Europe, Real Madrid knocked Bayern out of the Champions League in the semi-finals.
The poor campaign has already led to the departure of Thomas Tuchel from Bayern. The German coach will leave Die Roten at the end of the season after both parties agreed mutual termination in February. In terms of transfers, Rekordmeister will complete a squad overhaul in the summer.
Along with signing established talents, Bayern will also be in the mix to sign some of the best young players in the world. The latest murmurs in South America suggest that Bayern will go toe to toe with Chelsea to sign one of the brightest talents from Brazil.
According to Goal and AS, Bayern are interested in signing Palmeiras forward Estêvão Willian. The 17-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea. The Premier League club has made an offer for him. As per Goal, Bayern are ready to submit a better bid than Chelsea for the teenager.
Willian has a release clause worth €45 million in his contract at Palmeiras. Die Roten are ready to submit a fixed fee lower than the release clause, but bonuses will make the final deal worth €60 million. Meanwhile, Chelsea have made a bid worth €35m fixed plus €25m add-ons. Apart from Bayern and Chelsea, other big European clubs are yet to make an offer for Willian.
The 17-year-old forward is a signing for the future. It is a ridiculous fee for a teenager, but Bayern are taking a punt on a player who can turn into a superstar. Real Madrid paid similar hefty fees for Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo a few years ago. The Brazilian duo is currently amongst the best-attacking players in the world.
Die Roten also enjoyed success when it came to getting young players before they burst onto the scene. Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies have been crucial players for Bayern in the last three seasons, while Mathys Tel has justified the hefty price tag by showing his talent in the Bavarian colours during the last two seasons. The Bavarian club provides the right pathway for young players to reach the top level. Willian will make the correct decision if he joins Bayern since Chelsea already have several young attacking talents.
